MEET TROY

“Faith guides my decisions. Fiscal responsibility shapes my work. I want to help Walker County grow smart, maintain our hometown feel, and preserve what makes our community special.”

A lifelong Walker County resident, husband, father, and small-business owner, Troy Walker has spent his life building and serving the community he calls home.

After graduating from Sam Houston State University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Animal Science, Troy began a career in maintenance contracting for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). Over the past 30 years, he has grown his business from a small mowing operation into a large-scale contracting company that now maintains more than 30,000 acres of right-of-way each year and provides bridge rail and barrier repair, installation, and other key infrastructure services across the region.

As a hands-on owner, Troy manages every aspect of his operation—from bidding and budgeting to fieldwork and equipment operation. His leadership is rooted in hard work, accountability, and a deep understanding of how to get the job done efficiently and responsibly.

Beyond business, Troy serves on the Board of the West Sandy Community Association, helping preserve the historic San Jacinto Old School House, a gathering place for local events. He is also an active member of Second Baptist Church, where he plays bass guitar in the church band and has joined multiple mission trips—from Romania, serving youth in feeding centers, to Alaska, helping build housing for girls rescued from trafficking.

Troy and his wife, Joann, a local teacher, have been married for 29 years. They raised their children, McCade and Cara, here in Walker County and continue to run the family’s cattle ranch, carrying forward the same values of faith, family, and hard work that have defined their lives.

Now, with his children grown and his business firmly established, Troy is ready to give back through public service. His goal is simple: to bring the same work ethic, experience, and integrity that have guided his life into county leadership.
